PASSING THE TORCH
Dear Boise Braves MTB Family,
Since the founding of the Boise Braves Mountain Bike Team and the Idaho Interscholastic Cycling League, nearly three plus years in my current role as a Program Manager for the Idaho League’s Signature Outreach programs, fall race season Chief Registrar, statewide GRiT Coordinator, Boise Braves Level 3 Team Coach and full-time Boise Braves Team Director, it is with mixed emotions that I write this letter announcing my decision to step down from all but one of these positions to focus on Coaching and the new GRiT program within the Boise Braves MTB Team.
With a strong team of dedicated volunteers assembled and a very engaged and professional board of directors, I believe that this is an appropriate time to build sustainability and for Boise Braves MTB to benefit from the perspectives of new and returning leaders who can commit to seeing the organization through to the next stage.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to all who have been so supportive of the organisation and me personally over the years: the other volunteers at both the Boise Braves MTB and the Idaho Cycling League, our certified coaches and volunteers within the Boise Braves MTB who give so much, to the many generous donors and participants in the past Desert Dirt Shredfest fundraisers and the sponsors with whom I have had the pleasure to work with. Without you, the program would not be as strong and vibrant as it is. I am so honored to have been the leader of this incredible organization and will watch with much excitement and anticipation as it makes strides to the future to get #morekidsonbikes.
In the last four years since assuming my leadership roles, Boise Braves MTB has experienced consistent growth in student-athlete and coach participation. We started with twelve (12) student-athletes and seven (7) coaches in 2015 and now have 90+ student-athletes (42% girls) and almost 50 coaches. Our student-athletes are building friendships and bonding, we hope for a lifetime. With this program, we see student-athletes achieving better grades and having increased attention span at school. We are a leader in the nation in size, new ideas, innovations and the quality of our program. We share and consult to many other teams across the state and the US. We have developed an incredible program to move and manage 80+ riders in a single practice while maintaining low impact and integrating with the public positively in the local foothills. We set the standards for others to follow in trail etiquette, safety and friendliness.
I am incredibly proud of these accomplishments and am extremely confident that the strength of Boise Brave MTB’s vision coupled with the amazingly talented individuals involved will continue to deliver significant value and benefits to participating individuals and the community over the coming years.
I look forward to the next phase of our efforts to help student-athletes build strong minds, strong bodies, strong character, and community through cycling!
